The 14th Lefke Walnut Festival was held on Sunday and in addition to walnuts and walnut products, food, beverages and handicrafts belonging to the Cypriot culture were all up for grabs at the festival.
The Lefke Walnut Festival, which is organized annually in cooperation with Lefke Municipality and Lefke Tourism Association, kick-started with a cortege.
The festival was inaugurated by walnut producers in the region.
Delivering the opening speech of the festival, the head of the Lefke Tourism Association Hasan Karlıtaş explained that their aim is to contribute to the promotion of Turkish Cypriot culture, to support walnut producers and to provide economic benefit to the region.
Karlıtaş pointed out that the festival is a good example of the cooperation between local government and non-governmental organizations.
Lefke Mayor Aziz Kaya for his part noted that they continue their efforts to organize the walnut festival every year and said that they cancelled the concerts at the festival this year due to the loss of Nazım Beratlı, who was a great admirer of the Lefke region.
He stated that the continuation of traditional production is of great importance for Lefke which is a member of the Cittaslow network.
