The 50th anniversary of the Peace Operation is being celebrated with ceremonies and events.
Half a century has passed since Türkiye landed in Cyprus on July 20, 1974, using its right as guarantor, following the Greek-backed coup in Cyprus on July 15, 1974.
Peace and Freedom Day will begin with a speech delivered by President Ersin Tatar on BRT at noon today followed by a 50 gun salute.
Ceremonies and various events will be organized in the capital Lefkoşa and all districts.
July 20 ceremonies and events will be broadcast live on BRT.
The first ceremony of the day will be held at the Boğaz Martyrdom.
Ceremonies will also be held at the monument of the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people Dr. Fazıl Küçük and the mausoleum of founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş.
On July 20, there will be ceremonies in front of the Atatürk Monument and Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard in the capital Lefkoşa and similar ceremonies and events will also be held in all districts.
This year’s ceremonies and events will be attended by Motherland Türkiye at the highest level.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş and cabinet members, as well as representatives of political parties and many members of parliament will be in the TRNC.
The leader of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) Özgür Özel and his delegation who came to the island will attend the celebrations with 174 Cyprus Veterans, Central Executive Board members and many MPs.
At the invitation of Özel, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Güneş Ayata, daughter of then Turkish Foreign Minister Turan Güneş, who inspired the motto “Let Ayşe go on vacation” during the Cyprus Peace Operation, and Önder Sav, then Minister of Labour, will also take part in the events.
Along with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Devlet Bahçeli, the leader of the Democratic Left Party (DSP) Önder Aksakal and the leader of the Great Unity Party (BBP) Mustafa Destici will also visit the TRNC.
In addition to the guest delegations from Türkiye, there will be great participation from Azerbaijan and other Turkic states.
The Turkish Stars aerobatic team will also perform at this year’s ceremonies and add colour to the skies.
At the same time, 50 ships from the Naval Forces Command will present a naval parade to commemorate the 50th anniversary.
According to the statement made by the Security Forces Command, the Official Parade at Sea and Air Shows will be held in front of the Girne Dome Hotel on July 20.
The Official Parade to be performed at sea, will be realized with 50 ships and 12 naval aircraft formed from the elements of the Naval Forces Command, and aerial activities will be performed by the Turkish Stars demonstration team of the Turkish Air Forces Command.
Tonight the Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre will hold a reception in the garden of the Republican Assembly at 19.30.
Tomorrow night for the 50th anniversary of the July 20 Peace and Freedom Day President Ersin Tatar and first lady Sibel Tatar will host a reception.
The reception will take place at the Presidential Palace at 20:00.
