The European Commission has provided 15 new grants totaling over 2 million Euros to support the activities of civil society organizations across Cyprus.
According to a statement from the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, after evaluating 69 applications, the European Commission awarded 15 grants totalling over 2 million Euros in June under the “Cypriot Civil Society in Action” Grant Program.
The projects, benefiting 28 Cypriot civil society organizations, will be implemented over the next 15 to 30 months.
Six of the projects will be jointly carried out by Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot civil society organizations.
According to the statement, the projects focus on key areas such as environmental protection and sustainable development, reconciliation and confidence-building, and encouraging civil society’s involvement in the peace process.
They also aim to empower women and support victims of gender-based violence, advocate for youth and health rights, address animal rights, and work towards creating a more favourable environment for civil society organizations.
Since 2007, approximately 23 million Euros in grants have been allocated to civil society organizations under the EU Aid Program for the Turkish Cypriot community.
