Bar Association President Hasan Esendağlı has announced that a court has issued an arrest warrant for lawyer Murat Metin Hakkı.
In a statement shared on social media, Esendağlı said the justification and necessity of the court’s detention order required clarification.
He questioned the grounds for the decision, asking: “On what facts and evidence did the court rely to justify detaining a lawyer upon his entry into the country and issuing a search warrant for his office?”
He stressed that clarifying this matter was vital in determining whether there had been a violation of personal rights and freedoms, as well as the legal privileges of the legal profession — and, if so, identifying who bears responsibility.
Esendağlı added that the Bar Association would be following up on the case with the police today and with the court tomorrow, and would provide the public with further information in due course.
