UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on Israel to immediately cease its military operation in the northern West Bank.
Palestinians condemn the deadly military operations in the West Bank, which they say have resulted in multiple casualties.
“The latest developments in the occupied West Bank, including Israel’s launch of large-scale military operations, are deeply concerning,” Guterres wrote on X.
“I strongly condemn the loss of lives, including of children, and I call for an immediate cessation of these operations,” he added.
Israel initiated what it terms an “anti-terrorist operation” on Tuesday evening.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, at least 11 people were killed in joint operations by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet security service in the West Bank cities of Jenin and Tulkarm.
Amnesty International has spoken out against an escalation of “unlawful killings” of Palestinians by Israel in the West Bank.
They described a “brutal wave of deadly violence” against Palestinians by Israeli soldiers and armed settlers, warning that the new military operation will lead to “further loss of Palestinian lives” and “increase in forced displacement, destruction of critical infrastructure and measures of collective punishment.”
