Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu visited the Kaleburnu excavation site.
During the visit Minister Ataoğlu emphasized the importance of transferring cultural assets to future generations in a sustainable structure.
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu examined the excavation work being carried out at the Kaleburnu Kral Tepesi (King’s Hill) and the Negnopol area in the region and received information about the artifacts that have been unearthed.
He also examined the museum planned to be established to exhibit the artefacts consisting of pottery, bronze artefacts, human skeletons and tools such as spindle whorls used in wool processing, which were unearthed during the excavations carried out within the scope of the project carried out in cooperation with the Department of Antiquities and Museums and the Eastern Mediterranean University’s Eastern Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Research Centre and under the chairmanship of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bülent Kızılduman.
Ataoğlu also received information about the project of the museum, which he stated will be “a first in Cyprus”, which has the feature of “On-site Exhibition” within the scope of modern museology, where the artefacts obtained as a result of the excavations carried out in the region will be exhibited, and the documentary filmed during the excavation and survey phase will be shown together at the memory room.
