Ataser: Lapta Health Center is important; however, there is also a need for 24/7 service and on-call doctors!

The Lapta Health Center, with its renovated building and additional service area, was inaugurated on August 12 with a ceremony. The project, financed by the Ministry of Health and the Republic of Turkey, was completed in about a year. As part of the works, 344 square meters of the existing building were renovated, and a 196-square-meter annex was constructed.

Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek stated that the center, equipped with modern facilities and a strengthened medical staff, would meet the needs of the region’s growing population. Meanwhile, Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel Mayor Fırat Ataser emphasized that although the investment was significant, the current center would not fully meet the needs of the area. He stressed the necessity for a small-scale hospital-type health center that operates 24/7 with on-call doctors.

FIRAT ATASER: LAPTA HEALTH CENTER IS IMPORTANT BUT THE REGION NEEDS ROUND-THE-CLOCK SERVICE AND ON-CALL DOCTORS

Speaking to Kıbrıs Postası about the renewed Lapta Health Center, Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel (LAÇ) Mayor Fırat Ataser said that while the project was an important investment, it would not fully address the region’s healthcare needs.

Ataser noted the need for a small hospital-level facility capable of providing first aid and 24/7 service with on-call physicians. Despite being the largest district in Girne and facing high demand, he argued that the current center would not completely meet expectations.

“PLANNING MUST BE BASED ON POPULATION; THE REGION NEEDS A HIGHER-CAPACITY HEALTH CENTER”

Pointing out that a hospital is being built in Karaoğlanoğlu, Ataser underlined that investments should be planned according to population size. With the rising population and new road projects, the region needs a higher-capacity hospital, he reiterated, adding that they would continue their efforts to improve the current center.

Although the Lapta Health Center has begun operating with its upgraded facilities, expectations for the region’s healthcare infrastructure remain. Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek has highlighted that the center was planned to meet the area’s population density with modern equipment and a strengthened medical staff. However, Mayor Fırat Ataser insists that despite the importance of the investment, the center will not fully meet the needs of the region, and there is still a requirement for a small-scale hospital providing 24/7 services with on-call doctors.
