Automatic Meteorological Observation System

The installation of the Automatic Meteorological Observation System at Ercan Airport has been completed.

Meteorology Department Director Sinan Güneş noted that if the tests are completed without any problems, the system will be activated within 15 days.

The Director of the Meteorology Department of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation Sinan Güneş announced that the Automatic Meteorology Observation System has been installed at Ercan Airport and the system will be activated within 15 days if the tests are completed without any problems.

Güneş said that a very important threshold will be crossed at Ercan Airport once the system is up and running.

Stating that the Automatic Meteorological Observation System ensures that meteorological parameters such as ground temperature, wind speed, humidity, pressure and cloud base height are instantly and accurately reported to the Airport Meteorology Office, Tower and Approach Control Office from every point of the runway, Güneş said, “Once the system is activated, Ercan Airport, which has been serving at category 1 level for years, will be transformed into an airport where flights are carried out in a much safer environment by rising to category 2 level.”

Stating that the Automatic Meteorological Observation System was established in line with the recommendations and standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization and the World Meteorological Organization, Güneş noted that the total cost of the system is approximately 35 million TL, including equipment, materials and infrastructure works.
