Hermes Airports has hosted a conference titled “Beyond Sea & Sun” focusing on transforming Cyprus into a year-round tourist destination.
The initiative, which brought together political and business leaders alongside tourism industry innovators, aimed to launch a productive dialogue on sustainable tourism development and create a roadmap combining cultural experiences, environmental protection, infrastructure development, and sustainable tourism practices.
President Christodoulides opened the conference by presenting the government’s vision for tourism development and emphasising the importance of stakeholder collaboration.
Key discussions centred on developing new tourism products highlighting gastronomy, culture, nature, and authentic experiences to give Cyprus a competitive advantage. The conference also addressed the need to reposition Cyprus in the international tourism market with a new identity, improve infrastructure, and develop human resources.
“Our goal in organising ‘Beyond Sea & Sun’ is to initiate a substantive discussion about upgrading and strengthening our tourism product within the framework of government policy,” said Eleni Kalogirou, Chief Executive Officer of Hermes Airports. “By bringing all market players together, we aim to develop a plan that promotes responsible tourism practices, strengthens local economies, and ensures the development of a year-round tourist destination for future generations.”
The conference included presentations on problem management strategies, alternative tourism models, and new research on international trends, alongside discussions on necessary infrastructure interventions and industry regulatory frameworks. (ıncyprus)
