According to domestic media reports, a passenger vehicle hit people gathered for a protest.
Multiple people have been injured in Munich after a car drove into a crowd of demonstrators near the city’s centre.
The driver was arrested on site and posed no further danger, authorities confirmed. The Munich police said on X that they were currently on site with “strong forces”.
Local media reported that one person had been killed and several people seriously injured.
Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) said at least 20 people had been injured, citing emergency services. They added that exact numbers were difficult to confirm, as multiple injured people had fled to surrounding buildings for protection.
The emergency services confirmed that there were multiple injuries, but the authorities have not disclosed information on any deaths at this time. They asked the public to refrain from speculation.
The crowd were reportedly protesting in a march organised by one of Germany’s largest trade unions.
BR said officers were investigating if there was a link between the demonstration and the incident.
The Bavarian city is set to host scores of world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Vice President JD Vance, for the Munich security conference from Friday to Sunday.
