The families of the Champion Angels, who lost their lives in last years earthquake in Turkey, set out to walk from Famagusta to Nicosia and have requested support for tonight’s march in Nicosia.
The families, who say, “We are walking so that no one loses their loved ones and justice is served,” will also voice their demand for the trial of the Isias Hotel suspects to be conducted for manslaughter with intent.
Before the trial, which began in Adiyaman in January and will continue until April 26, regarding the Isias Hotel, which was demolished in the earthquake on February 6, where 72 people lost their lives, including 35 from the Gazimağusa Turkish Maarif College group, a march is also being organized in Nicosia.
Organized under the leadership of the Champion Angels Remembrance Association, the march, with the slogan “Shine a Light on Justice” and the demand for the possible intent trial of the suspects, will start from the Nicosia Bus Terminal at 7:00 p.m. and end in front of the Turkish Embassy in Nicosia.
Meanwhile, the families of the Champion Angels set off from Gazimağusa to Nicosia this morning with torches and slogans like “We are walking for justice” and “We trust in justice.”
Osman Akın and Tayıp Özberkman made a statement on behalf of the families who will walk the approximately 60-kilometer distance between Gazimağusa and Nicosia.
Osman Akın, who lost his sons Alp and Doruk Akın in the earthquake on February 6, called on citizens to support tonight’s march in Nicosia, saying, “We have confidence in justice.”
Tayıp Özberkman, the father of Sahil Özberkman, said that without exemplary punishments for the irregularities that took their loved ones’ lives with the collapsed buildings in the earthquake, such irregularities would not be dared.
Özberkman said, “We are walking so that no one loses their loved ones and justice is served.”
That march in Nicosia starts at 7 Pm from the Bus Terminal.
