A 12-year-old child diagnosed with Influenza Type B has died at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia after a rapid deterioration to its health condition.
The child was initially referred to the hospital by a paediatrician after contracting Influenza B, whereupon the patient’s condition worsened significantly within hours of admission.
The patient was transferred to the intensive care unit where medical staff initiated emergency protocols, including arrangements for air evacuation to a specialised hospital in Israel accompanied by a medical team.
These efforts proved unsuccessful as the child succumbed to complications early this morning.
