CTP leader: Expecting substantial progress would be “unrealistic”

The leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman has said that it would have been unrealistic to expect substantial progress towards a comprehensive solution from the informal meeting of the two leaders.

Sharing his thoughts during a TV programme on the informal dinner attended by President Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Christodoulides, hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, t Erhürman said, “This dinner is not something extraordinary. It was an informal gathering, and it would be a miracle to expect anything substantial towards a comprehensive solution.”

However, he also noted that dismissing the dinner as unimportant would not be accurate, highlighting its role in keeping the dialogue open.

The CTP leader expressed that neither side wishes to sever dialogue completely, asserting the importance of continuing dialogue and diplomacy.

Additionally, he pointed out the potential for advancements in energy and hydrocarbon discussions, indicating a glimmer of hope for future negotiations. brt
