Tufan Erhürman, the leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), met with Özgür Özel, the leader of Türkiye’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), at the CHP headquarters in Ankara.
Earlier, as part of his other contacts in the Turkish capital, the CTP leader had met with the Deputy Chairman of Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party Mustafa Elitaş at the AKP headquarters.
Following their meeting, the two leaders issued a joint statement. CHP leader Özgür Özel remarked that their discussions covered the relationship between the TRNC and Türkiye, as well as the ties between their respective parties.
They also discussed their upcoming visit to Cyprus to mark the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Peace Operation.
Özel emphasized, “In the coming period, we will continue to collectively fight for the rightful cause of Northern Cyprus and strive for the most accurate, inclusive, and peaceful solutions for the future of our citizens in Northern Cyprus.”
CTP leader Tufan Erhürman highlighted the strong fraternal ties between the two parties, asserting their commitment to enhancing cooperation on international platforms such as the Socialist International and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Erhürman stressed the importance of their engagement for the relations between the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as well as for the relations between the two peoples.
He reiterated CTP’s stance on maintaining strong and respectful relations and stated that they would continue to advocate for this approach.
Recognizing the significance of international representation and problem-solving, Erhürman added that they would maintain and increase close consultation and cooperation.BRT
