Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot working women have send a “loud message” to the leaders of the two communities in Cyprus ahead of the meeting on the Cyprus problem on March 17-18 in Geneva, to work hard towards achieving a solution to the Cyprus problem.
In their joint declaration on the occasion of the International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8, trade union organisations PEO, DEVIS, KTAMS, KTOS, KTOEOS, BES, DAUSEN, KOOP-SEN reaffirm their commitment to the agreed basis for a solution to the Cyprus problem for a bi- zonal, bi- communal federation with political equality as described in the United Nations resolutions, which will ensure the working, social, political and human rights of all.
They pledge to continue the struggle for the reunification of their homeland and the peaceful coexistence of its people as well as for better working and living conditions for working women, facing the multiple problems-challenges.
They note that the situation in the Middle East region confirms once again the urgent need to resolve the Cyprus problem since ‘the current status quo not only does not ensure stability and security, but increases the risks for the region and our homeland’.
“We, the working women of Cyprus, Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, honor March 8, International Women’s Day and send a message of Peace – Reunification – Social Justice and Equality to all women who believe and fight for universal ideals and values,” they conclude.
