A winter wonderland has descended upon the Troodos Mountains in Cyprus, as heavy snow continued to fall overnight. Social media users have shared images and videos showcasing the intense snowfall brought on by Storm Elena, affecting the island’s highest mountain range.
As of the latest meteorological report, snow depth in Troodos Square had reached 2 centimetres. The Cyprus Police have issued a warning that roads leading to Troodos, including those from Platres, Karvouna, and Prodromos, are only accessible to vehicles equipped with snow chains or four-wheel drive due to ongoing snow accumulation.

Meanwhile, the roads connecting Kykko to Pedoula and Kambos to Orkonda remain open but are subject to rock and debris slides, posing additional hazards for drivers.
The yellow weather warning for rain and isolated thunderstorms, issued on Christmas Eve, remains in effect until this afternoon, affecting much of the island. While the weather has calmed in most areas of Cyprus, sporadic rain is still reported, particularly in the northeastern regions, including Karpasia.
Troodos can expect more rain and snow later in the day, with widespread precipitation anticipated by the evening. The unsettled weather will persist through Friday morning, after which conditions are expected to improve. However, occasional rain showers are forecast for the upcoming weekend.
