At least one person was killed in a fire that broke out at a Pars Petro oil refinery in southwestern Iran, state media reported.
The blaze erupted at a refinery located approximately 800 kilometres southwest of Tehran in the oil-rich Khuzestan province, which borders Iraq.
Mohsen Mousavi, the governor of Shushtar region, told the state news agency IRNA that one person had died and four others were injured in the incident.
“The fire was caused by a tanker colliding with storage tanks,” Mousavi said, adding that an investigation into the incident is underway.
Footage broadcast on Iranian state television showed large flames engulfing the facility and thick black smoke billowing into the sky.
This incident follows a similar incident in March when one person lost their life in a fire at an oil refinery in the southern Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.
