
The Ministry of Health has initiated training for healthcare workers on preparing Hospital and Disaster Emergency Plans.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Deren Oygar, emphasized that the country’s geographical location makes it vulnerable to disasters, highlighting the vital importance of such training programs.
Speaking on the issue, Health Ministry Undersecretary Deren Oygar recalled the losses suffered in the 2023 earthquake and stressed the increasing significance of disaster preparedness and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to taking necessary measures.
She stated that following the February 6 earthquake, the Ministry launched inspections to assess the earthquake resistance of its existing buildings, and this process is ongoing.
As part of national disaster planning efforts, Oygar announced that the Ministry has initiated the establishment of a National Medical Rescue Team.
She noted that, following training provided by the Turkish Ministry of Health, the Cyprus Turkish Medical Search and Rescue Team has now been formed.
Oygar also revealed that they have started working with experts from the Turkish Ministry of Health’s General Directorate of Emergency Health Services, Disaster, and Emergency Management Department to develop hospital disaster plans.
She stated that local healthcare professionals will be trained as instructors to implement hospital disaster guidelines.
Meanwhile, Murat Genç, Head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Department at Türkiye’s General Directorate of Emergency Health Services, underscored the critical importance of hospital disaster and emergency planning.brt
