Dust and mid-30s (°C) to grip Cyprus this weekend

People in Cyprus can expect a stifling few days ahead as a combination of dense dust and high temperatures descends upon the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Panayiotis Georgiou, a department official, told Phileleftheros that dust blowing in from Africa will linger in the atmosphere until at least next Monday, with concentrations potentially reaching “orange levels” at times.

This coincides with a forecast rise in temperatures by up to five degrees Celsius, pushing them into the mid-30s (°C).

The dust episode may reach the intensity witnessed last week, while a high-pressure system will contribute to daily temperature increases of up to two degrees, significantly exceeding seasonal norms.

The weather forecast predicts mostly clear skies with occasional high cloud cover for today, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The presence of dust in the atmosphere is anticipated during this period, with the possibility of temporary spikes in concentration.
