Passenger and aircraft traffic at Ercan Airport has continued to grow, with significant increases recorded in the first two months of 2025 compared to the same period last year.
One of the key factors contributing to this growth is the extension of Ercan Airport’s runway to 3,000 meters, allowing wide-body aircraft to land on the new runway.
According to a statement from T&T Airport Management, the number of passengers at Ercan Airport rose by 22.54%, while the number of flights increased by 23.48% in the first two months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
Among key factors contributing to this growth is the extension of Ercan Airport’s runway to 3,000 meters, allowing the introduction of Turkish Airlines’ Airbus A-350 flights to Ercan, as well as new services from SunExpress and other airlines.
Official figures reveal that 676,835 passengers used Ercan Airport in the first two months of 2024, whereas this number surged to 829,400 in the same period of 2025.
The number of flights also showed a notable rise, with 4,442 aircraft using Ercan Airport in the first two months of 2024, compared to 5,485 flights in the same period of 2025.
A breakdown of the monthly figures indicates that 334,510 passengers used the airport in January 2024, increasing to 443,811 in January 2025. In February 2024, the number of passengers stood at 342,325, rising to 395,589 in February 2025.
This growth highlights Ercan Airport’s increasing role as a key transportation hub, benefiting from improved infrastructure and expanded airline services.brt
