The leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman emphasized that the will of the Turkish Cypriots is being disregarded in matters of energy and property.
He stated, “The void created by ignoring the existence and will of the Turkish Cypriot people cannot be filled with symbols. It is time everyone recognized this reality.”
CTP leader Tufan Erhürman criticized recent developments following Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides’ visit to Israel, in a statement shared on social media.
According to the statement made by the CTP, Erhürman noted that discussions on electricity interconnection and hydrocarbon cooperation between Israel and South Cyprus are being carried out while disregarding the will of the Turkish Cypriot people.
He also pointed out that Greek Cypriot media reported on further cooperation within the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor during the Israel visit, highlighting that these developments are closely linked to maritime jurisdiction areas in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Erhürman stressed that Christodoulides is exercising sovereignty on behalf of the entire island – and thus on behalf of Turkish Cypriots as well – which poses a threat to peace and stability.
Referring to the escalating legal actions over property in the south, Erhürman said the situation has worsened significantly and that the issue now goes far beyond foreign individuals, contractors, and real estate agents – a warning he had previously issued multiple times.
“Despite Turkish Cypriots being one of the two equal founding partners in Cyprus, they are being entirely nullified in terms of sovereignty under the so-called ‘no solution is a solution’ policy. The deep void created by ignoring the will of the Turkish Cypriot people cannot be filled with slogans, words, or symbols. Everyone needs to realize this as soon as possible”, said Erhürman.
