EU Commission allocates €5 million to support cultural heritage in Cyprus

The European Commission has signed a new agreement with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), allocating an additional €5 million to support the work of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage between 2025 and 2029.

The funding is part of the EU Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community.

The latest initiative launched by the European Commission aims to contribute to the reunification efforts in Cyprus by preserving and restoring the island’s rich cultural heritage.

In addition to safeguarding cultural assets, the new phase of the project seeks to engage younger generations through the Cultural Heritage Youth Ambassadors initiative, encouraging them to become active custodians of Cyprus’s shared heritage.

The project will also advance digital preservation and accessibility by introducing digitised records of restored sites, virtual tours, 3D reconstructions, and comprehensive online archiving.
