EU opens scholarship applications for for Cypriot students to study at UWC

The European Commission has announced that applications for scholarships to study at United World Colleges (UWC) for the 2027–2029 academic years will open on 18 November 2025 and remain available until 11 January 2026.
According to a Commission press release, a new €1.5 million EU-funded agreement with UWC will enable 18 students to pursue the International Baccalaureate diploma at UWC campuses across Europe. Participating schools include UWC Adriatic in Italy, UWC Red Cross Nordic in Norway, UWC Maastricht in the Netherlands, UWC Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and UWC Robert Bosch College in Germany.
Scholars will be selected based on UWC’s established criteria, which assess applicants’ motivation, commitment, social competence, resilience, personal responsibility, integrity, and intellectual curiosity.
Since its launch in 2019, the EU Scholarship Programme at UWC has awarded 82 scholarships to Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot students, helping to foster intercommunity dialogue and reconciliation. The programme has had a “profound and lasting impact” on participants, the Commission noted.
Beyond scholarships, the programme also supports bicommunal youth engagements, short courses, and mentorship initiatives in Cyprus, all designed to promote cooperation and empower young people with leadership and change-making skills. UWC’s educational approach—emphasizing peace, intercultural understanding, and global citizenship—aligns closely with the EU’s values of human rights, equality, freedom, and the promotion of peace and justice.
