The Cyprus Foundations Administration (EVKAF) is celebrating the 453rd anniversary of its establishment and the 68th anniversary of its takeover from the British, with a ceremony at Evkaf’s head office in Nicosia.
President Ersin Tatar spoke during the occasion, stating that Evkaf helped protect Turkish Cypriots’ property, assets, and possessions while also supporting individuals.
He stated that a swap of foundation-registered properties was on the agenda and that the island was home to two independent states and populations. “If an agreement has to be reached, it would be based on equal sovereignty, which the property settlement would also be based upon,” he said.
The President stated that Evkaf was turned over to the Turkish Cypriot government 68 years ago and that this precise incident sparked the national struggle and put light on the conflict.
Zorlu Töre, Speaker of the Parliament, stated that the Evkaf was responsible for the effective protection of many Turkish Cypriot assets.
Töre questioned the destiny of the Evkaf properties that are now under Greek Cypriot management.
