Minister of Finance Özdemir Berova received Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade, Sezai Uçarmak, who is in the TRNC to participate in the first meeting of the Türkiye-TRNC Joint Customs Committee.
According to a statement from the Ministry, during the visit, Uçarmak underlined the importance of the relationship between the two countries.
Finance Minister Berova, stressed that the relations between motherland Türkiye and the TRNC had always been warm throughout history, and said, “This, of course, makes us both happy and proud.”
Reminding that the TRNC was preparing to celebrate its 41st anniversary, he expressed gratitude to the officials of Türkiye and the people of Anatolia for their continuous financial and moral support to the Turkish Cypriot people.
Noting that several sub-protocols had been signed under the “Protocol on Cooperation in Customs Matters and the Detection and Prevention of Smuggling” that was established in 2007, Berova stressed that the Customs Automation System was a critical issue for them.
Following the meeting, Minister Berova attended the Joint Customs Committee session and delivered an opening speech.
During the session, they exchanged views on the current status of the TRNC Customs and Automation System project, taking into account aspects such as risk analysis and the strengthening of customs infrastructure, as well as the training support provided in this regard.
