Flu deaths in Cyprus rise to eight

Eight people have died from influenza A in Cyprus since the start of winter, while ten patients are currently receiving treatment in intensive care units, health officials said today.

Charalambos Charilaou, spokesperson for the State Health Services Organisation, told philenews that ICU patients span all age groups. “This should concern us all and remind us to maintain protective measures and be particularly careful not to transmit the virus we carry,” he said.

The reported death toll only includes patients treated at state hospitals, Charilaou clarified. Cases and deaths recorded at private healthcare facilities are reported directly to the Ministry of Health.
