Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides said on Saturday that he will be going to a tripartite dinner in New York with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar next Tuesday with the required readiness and cautious optimism for a positive outcome.
Greek Cypriot leader Christodoulides was speaking upon his arrival at the 8th Rural Culture Festival of the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation, which took place on Saturday afternoon in the village of Farmakas.
According to the Press and Information Office, responding to a journalist’s question on whether there was any information on the intentions of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for Tuesday’s informal meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, the Greek Cypriot leader said he considered “particularly important that with two wars going on, in Ukraine and in the Middle East, (Mr Guterres) has taken this initiative to organise this dinner”.
“What I can say with certainty is that I am going to this dinner with the readiness that is required, with cautious optimism, and I am going there for a positive outcome. And a positive outcome for us can be nothing less than the resumption of efforts to restart substantive negotiations on the basis of the agreed framework,” he said. (voıce)
