Gurcafer leads the Building contractors for another term

The 18th General Assembly of the Cyprus Turkish Building Contractors Association (CTCA) was held, with Cafer Gürcafer re-elected as President .
During the General Assembly, members of the Board of Directors, the Supervisory Board, and the Honorary Board of the Association were also determined. Cafer Gürcafer, the sole candidate for the presidency, was unanimously re-elected as President.
The 18th Ordinary General Assembly of the Cyprus Turkish Contractors Association, held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Atatürk Cultural Center’s Grand Conference Hall, appointed Fuat Kutlu as the Chairman and Mehmet Akal and Cemal M. Bulutoğluları as the Secretaries.
Cafer Gürcafer, President of the Cyprus Turkish Contractors Association (CTCA), emphasized the importance of unity and solidarity in light of the realities of the state and the country during his speech at the General Assembly.
Gürcafer noted that while the construction sector and CTCA are growing every day, the same cannot be said for the state, which he deemed a significant danger that needs attention.
Gürcafer stated:
“We are growing both as an industry and as an institution, both in terms of the number of employees and the services we provide to our members and our sector, as well as our influence with the governments. I am sorry, but I cannot say the same for our state. Our state is not improving. We all see this. Yes, we are institutionalizing, improving ourselves, our companies are improving, our sector is growing, we are making money, but there is something strange. Instead of progressing as a whole country, we find ourselves yearning for the state structure of the 80s and 90s, becoming corrupted. Our country is becoming corrupt. Inefficiency in the public sector is increasing every day and reaching a point where it cannot be corrected. This is a very significant danger that we all need to pay attention to.
I HAVE SERIOUS DOUBTS ABOUT OUR COUNTRY’S PROGRESS, UNFORTUNATELY”
Cafer Gürcafer, President of CTCA, expressed no doubt about the future of the construction sector in the upcoming period.
“However, I have serious doubts about our country’s progress,” said Gürcafer. “That’s why now, more than ever, we need the unity and solidarity that we have always cherished and preserved.”
Gürcafer continued: “All historical successes have emerged as a result of unity and solidarity. Atatürk’s principles and the War of Independence, which shed light on our future and our children’s future, were successful because Atatürk believed and convinced the nation to stay united. Look at the divisions! They always ended in disappointment. We experienced this too. But our most important principle is to preserve our unity and solidarity. We grew as one because we didn’t give the opportunity to those who wanted to divide us.
This is our nature, the current situation in our country.”
Cafer Gürcafer, President of CTCA, pointed out the need for a revolution or reform but expressed concerns about it.
Emphasizing the need for unity and solidarity in the light of the realities of the state and the country, Gürcafer concluded:
“I am one of those who have never lost faith in the future, who believe that the struggle must be waged even in the worst conditions, but now I am not hesitant to say this. I cannot see a political structure that will bring us the future we envision. We have become so corrupt, our country has become so polluted and rotten that we need a revolution, a reform. Just as Atatürk’s principles and revolutions were successful, we need a set of rules. Therefore, whether it is federal or confederal in Cyprus, or whether it is the recognition of the TRNC or whatever its name is, let there be a solution that integrates with the world so that we can join the European Union.
Let the EU come and impose its rules on us, and let us abide by these rules to get rid of this mess. Or let there be a structure that knows what to do the next day, put all these reforms in place, and fix the country, rescue us from this filth. Looking ahead, I do not see anything about it. There is no such political structure. This is our reality. In the light of this reality, we need each other more than ever.
We will hold each other’s hands tighter. We will cling to and protect our sector, our bread, our employees, and our institutions even tighter than before.”
