National Unity Party (UBP) Secretary General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu has strongly criticized the recent arrest campaign launched by the Greek Cypriot Administration, asserting that it directly targets the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) economy and the fundamental right to life of the Turkish Cypriot people.
In a statement, National Unity Party (UBP) Secretary General Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu described the arrests as a coordinated and systematic policy by the Greek Cypriot side, warning that these actions are not limited to the construction sector.
He said they also threaten the TRNC’s property regime, broader economy, and basic rights.
Hasipoğlu emphasized that necessary countermeasures will definitely be taken and noted that evaluations are ongoing, with implementation expected soon.
He also accused the Greek Cypriot side of trying to render the Immovable Property Commission ineffective, an issue he said he raised during his recent contacts at the European Parliament.
While the TRNC pursues the property issue through legal means, Hasipoğlu said the Greek Cypriot Administration is attempting to politicize the matter and use the law as a political tool.
Responding to some circles linking the issue to the two-state solution model advocated by the TRNC, Hasipoğlu questioned the basis for such claims, asking, “On what grounds are they saying this? What message or information have they received to make such statements?”
He also criticized the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), accusing it of blurring the lines between law and politics.
