The General-Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBP), Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu, stated that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus would eventually take its rightful place.
In a statement marking the 61st anniversary of United Nations Security Council Resolution 186, dated March 4, 1964, Hasipoğlu said, “For 61 years, the United Nations has ignored the will of the Turkish Cypriot side on the island. We have long deserved the recognition of our sovereign equality and equal international status.”
Hasipoğlu also stressed that the isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people must come to an end.

Stressing that this outdated resolution should be revised in light of the realities on the island, Hasipoğlu stated, “The UN Security Council is fueling deadlock rather than a solution and continues to create a comfort zone for the Greek Cypriot side in Cyprus. Law, equality, humanity, and the right to life have been disregarded by this resolution.”
“The UN Security Council must finally give due regard to the report written by Kofi Annan in 2004 and put an end to the isolations imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people. With Resolution 186, the Security Council is not fostering a solution but deepening the impasse while providing comfort to the Greek Cypriot side. This resolution has completely ignored law, equality, humanity, and the right to life. We find it necessary to once again remind that the UN and the Security Council have continuously made the Turkish Cypriots bear the cost of this mistake” he added.
Noting that the United Nations had disregarded the will of the Turkish Cypriot side on the island for 61 years, Hasipoğlu stated that the Turkish Cypriot people had long deserved the recognition of their sovereign equality and equal international status.
“Amid the rapid developments in the global political arena in recent years, with Türkiye’s support, the TRNC will sooner or later secure its rightful place in the international arena. The obstacles to strengthening its ties with the Turkic states and other major international organizations will be overcome one by one in the coming period” he added.brt
