Maria Angela Holguín Cuéllar announced shortly after her meeting with President Christodoulides that she will prepare a report for the Secretary-General in the coming period.
Holguín stated that in the following days, she will meet with the United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, whom she will brief on the contacts she had with both sides on the island and with other interested parties.
As she mentioned in her report, she will record the outcomes of her contacts on the island with the citizens, parties, and leaderships.
She announced her intention to continue pushing for the resumption of talks.
“I will strive for this until the last day,” said the personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General.
She also made sure to send a clear message to Nikos Christodoulides and Ersin Tatar: “Leaders must lead the people.”
Lastly, she emphasized that her goal remains dialogue and that she will continue to strive for the two leaders to meet. Holguín responded to a question about whether her goals include convening a trilateral meeting with the two leaders.
