Snow blankets Troodos in April, surprising many as Easter weather

A stunning, all-white landscape formed by recent snowfall in the Troodos Mountains has taken over social media, with many citizens commenting on the unexpected phenomenon. While admiring the picturesque scene, some have pointed out the surreal nature of the snow, which feels more reminiscent of Christmas than Easter.

According to a spokesperson from the Meteorological Department, speaking to Philenews, it is indeed rare to see snow in Cyprus during April. The phenomenon was caused by a cold air mass affecting the region, which significantly lowered temperatures. As of 4:00 PM, snow depths reached 3 cm at Troodos Square and 7 cm at Mount Olympus.

The forests in the mountain area were particularly mystical early in the day, with tree branches bending under the weight of the snowflakes and fog enveloping the landscape. However, this winter-like scene is expected to change as early as tomorrow, with temperatures rising and snow likely to melt.

On Great Monday, the weather will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers likely in the mountainous areas. Strong winds will also be felt throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to reach around 20°C inland, 19°C along the coasts, and 9°C in the higher elevations. Tuesday through Thursday will see mainly clear skies and a noticeable rise in temperatures, which will exceed average seasonal norms.
