Israel says it will seek evacuation assistance from Greece, Cyprus in case it is attacked

The international community remains on high alert as fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East intensify.

Analysts anticipate a retaliatory strike against Israel by Hezbollah and Iran, following the recent assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and senior Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr in Beirut’s southern suburbs.

Greece and Cyprus have become embroiled in the crisis after comments made by Israel’s Transport Minister, Miri Regev.

According to Greek state broadcaster ERT, Regev stated, “If we are attacked, we may ask for help from the Israeli Air Force and ships from Athens in Greece and Larnaca in Cyprus.”

The minister’s remarks reportedly referred to the potential use of vessels to repatriate stranded Israelis amidst flight cancellations.

Cyprus has reiterated that it is ready to act as a “safety bridge” to assist in the evacuations of citizens from the region and has activated its ‘Estia’ national action plan.
