Jealousy / The Cabaret of Othello

A unique cultural event is set to bring new life to the historic city of Gazimağusa, as the special performance “Jealousy / The Cabaret of Othello” will be staged throughout the summer at the Venetian Palace.

Supported by the Deputy Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, Gazimağusa Municipality, and the Department of Antiquities, the event blends theatre, dance, music, and gastronomy, offering a rich cultural experience for both locals and visitors.

A press conference was held in Lefkoşa to announce the event.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu emphasized that tourism in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is not limited to hotels alone.

“We set out to show that tourism is not just about hotels or misleading narratives,” said Ataoğlu. “With the work we’ve done in collaboration with the Department of Antiquities and Museums, we’ve begun to highlight our historical sites and promote alternative tourism concepts.”

Ataoğlu also noted that the performance is drawing interest from various countries, including South Cyprus, which he sees as proof of the success of their promotional efforts.

“The fact that there will be participation from different countries and even from South Cyprus shows that we are on the right track. This is a great source of pride and encouragement for us,” said Ataoğlu.

Gazimağusa Mayor Süleyman Uluçay also spoke at the event, underlining the importance of tourism to the national economy, and praised Minister Ataoğlu’s vision and support for the sector.

“Tourism is a major pillar of our economy. The Minister’s vision and backing have greatly contributed to the development of diverse tourism initiatives. This is a valuable opportunity for Gazimağusa, and we are proud to be part of it,” said Uluçay.
