European parliamentarian Niyazi Kızılyürek met with a group of businessmen in Famagusta, discussing initiatives and issues related to access to the European market, particularly focusing on Green Line Trade.
Niyazi Kızılyürek, who is running for re-election in the European Parliament elections on June 9th, emphasized the importance of participation in these elections. He stated that the European market is a strong alternative for Turkish Cypriot producers. Addressing concerns about the issues within the Green Line Regulation, Kızılyürek mentioned that he had submitted a question to the Commission and assured that he will continue to follow up on this matter.
The primary agenda for the Famagusta businessmen was the problems encountered in Green Line Trade. The business community raised concerns about issues in banks and reported disruptions in the transit of furniture products. During the meeting, it was discussed that coffee is now also included in Green Line trade, and efforts to expand the scope were explained. Businessmen pointed out that tests conducted in accredited laboratories in Turkey are not accepted, and they discussed possible solutions to this problem.
Kızılyürek expressed that the potential of the Green Line Regulation has not been adequately utilized, stating, “We can exceed the level of trade at 15 million euros. We will act with an approach of local production, consumption in Europe.” Asserting that “We are EU citizens, we have rights, and we must overcome challenges,” Kızılyürek emphasized the need to show a stronger presence in the elections on June 9th, demonstrating our orientation towards Europe.
