Germany’s Lufthansa Group and its subsidiary Swiss International Air Lines have suspended all passenger and cargo flights to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect until 8 August, company officials announced on Thursday.
“The reason for this is the current development in the region,” a Lufthansa spokesperson said.
The airline group has also extended its suspension of flights to and from Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, through 12 August.
Swiss International confirmed it would halt flights from Zurich to Tel Aviv until 8 August and to Beirut until 12 August.
These cancellations come as Lebanon prepares for potential retaliation from Israel following a strike in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights on Saturday that resulted in the deaths of 12 children and teenagers. Hezbollah has denied responsibility for the attack.
Multiple airlines, including United, Delta, and British Airways, have suspended or will suspend flights to Israel following the assassinations of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, which have dramatically escalated regional tensions.
