The initial phase of the Rauf Raif Denktaş Memorial and Republic Park landscaping and design project has commenced.
The project, prepared by Eastern Mediterranean University and awarded to Capiton Company, aims to enhance the park’s sustainability and aesthetic appeal.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth, and Environment, Fikri Ataoğlu, conducted an on-site inspection of the project, which is expected to be completed within four months.
He emphasized the goal of ensuring the park maintains a sustainable structure post-completion.
The first phase of the two-stage project includes environmental landscaping, renovation and addition of concrete surfaces, vegetative landscaping, irrigation systems, seating areas, a skate park, the Rauf Raif Denktaş Memorial Wall, and informational panels.
Once this phase is complete, the second phase will focus on updating the electrical systems, installing children’s play areas, and fencing the area.
Minister Ataoğlu, accompanied by ministry bureaucrats, reviewed the ongoing work and received updates on the project’s progress.
In a statement to the press, Ataoğlu mentioned that the Denktaş family’s views and ideas were considered during the project’s planning phase.
“Our discussions internally have focused on how we can place the control and management of the site under the supervision of our military personnel. We will discuss this matter with the President, our commanders, and the Council of Ministers to determine the best approach. We aim to ensure that the memorials of both Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş are under the careful supervision and control of our military,” Ataoğlu stated.
