Missing Martyr Eşref Salih was buried on Wednesday, 60 years after he was abducted and murdered by Greek Cypriots.
A state ceremony was held at Tuzla Cemetery for martyr Eşref Salih, who was found and identified thanks to the efforts of the Committee for Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP).
Missing martyr Eşref Salih was laid to eternal rest on Wednesday with a state ceremony held at the Tuzla Cemetery.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar said, “60 years may have passed, but he will always be in our hearts, he was martyred for these lands, he is a person who was martyred as a result of the brutal attacks of the Greek-Greek Cypriots who dreamed of uniting the island of Cyprus with Greece.”
Noting that the state did what was necessary and found its martyr despite 60 years passing, President Tatar said, “We owe today, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), the independent state, the freedom, peace and tranquillity here to the martyrs. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Following President Tatar’s speech, funeral proceedings took place and the TRNC and Turkish flags draped around the coffin were handed over to martyr Eşref Salih’s family.brt
