Naimoğulları: It’s the Economy Minister’s Duty to Provide the People Affordable Meat
The President of the Animal Producers and Breeders Union, Mustafa Naimoğulları, who claims that even the poor can afford meat, stated that it is not the job of the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Hüseyin Çavuş, to provide cheap meat, but to protect the rights of livestock breeders. Naimoğlulları said, “If people want cheap meat, it is the duty of the economy minister.”
Animal breeders held a demonstration and press conference in front of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in protest of the Minister of Agriculture’s decision to allow meat import.
Protesters left a black wreath at the ministry’s entrance in protest.
In his statement during the demonstration, Union President Mustafa Naimoğulları criticized Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hüseyin Çavuş for allowing the import of meat.
Naimoğulları stated that it is not Çavuş’s job to do this, saying, “The agriculture minister announced that he allowed the import of meat for the public to afford cheap meat, but this is not his duty. His duty is to protect the rights of livestock breeders. If the public wants cheap meat, it is the duty of the economy minister.”
