India’s Meteorological Department had already recorded a record-high temperature of 49.9 degrees Celsius in New Delhi yesterday.
The authorities in the city of nearly 30 million people issued a “red health alert” for today, following similar temperatures yesterday.
The heatwave in central and northwestern India is “expected to subside gradually” from tomorrow, Thursday, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
