Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality announced on its social media account that the first steps have been taken to establish a new middle school in the Lapta, Alsancak, and Karşıyaka regions.
The announcement stated that one of the region’s oldest schools, Lapta Yavuzlar High School, is struggling to accommodate 940 students, 104 teachers, and 12 service staff during the 2023-2024 academic year. Due to the rapidly increasing population, the current physical structure of the school has become insufficient, and it has been facing various challenges.
Following meetings with the school principal, council members, local administrators, and regional associations, the steps taken under the leadership of Mayor Fırat Ataser have yielded results. In discussions with Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, an agreement was reached regarding the location, and cleaning operations have begun in the Old Nursing Home area for the new school.
