New minimum wage: Gross ₺34,070, Net ₺29,640

The Minimum Wage Determination Commission has set the second minimum wage for 2024.

With a 23.5% increase, the new minimum wage is gross ₺34,070  and net ₺29,640.

Announcing the new rate following Monday’s meeting with stakeholders, the Minister of Labour and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu announced that the new minimum wage was approved by a majority vote, reflecting the votes of both state and worker representatives.

Minister Gardiyanoğlu thanked the employer and worker representatives for their constructive approach throughout the process.

“The new minimum wage is net ₺29,640, gross ₺34,070, ₺196.55 hourly, ₺1,572.46 daily, and ₺7,862.30 weekly.”

Also speaking Employer representative Alp Cengiz Alp expressed his discontent with the outcome, stating that employers could and should not be held responsible for the soaring inflation in the country.

“Employers are not in a position to pay for the inflation in this country. We have objected to and rejected the rate of increase,” he said reminding that this rate determined was a base for salaries and that many businesses were already paying much higher wages.

He pointed out that the current rise will run many businesses to the ground.

It was the other way around for the workers as Hür-İş Federation President Ahmet Serdaroğlu expressed satisfaction with the new minimum wage although it was still far from addressing the needs of employees.

He added that the new wage adjustment aimed to address the economic challenges faced by workers, ensuring a better standard of living amid rising inflation.
