New school year begins for 58,000 students in Northern Cyprus

The 2025–2026 academic year kicked off today, with around 58,000 students and 6,500 teachers returning to classrooms after the summer break.

The Ministry of Education announced that 19 new schools have been built ahead of the new term, while reconstruction and reinforcement work continues at many others. In total, more than 1.7 billion TL has been allocated for school construction and strengthening projects.

This year also marks the start of new safety measures in schools. For the first time, 35 security personnel have been assigned to campuses, with plans to gradually expand coverage to all schools.
