Paris 2024 Olympic Games to close with spectacular ceremony as Los Angeles takes over

The 33rd Olympic Games in Paris are set to conclude on Sunday, with the host nation handing over the Olympic flag and the responsibility for the next Games to Los Angeles. The closing ceremony will take place at the Stade de France, beginning at 21:00 local time (22:00 Cyprus time).

Los Angeles, which has previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984, will prepare for its third stint as the Games’ host. The 1932 Olympics saw 1,408 athletes from 37 countries compete in 116 events. The 1984 Games, despite a boycott by 14 countries due to alleged violations of the Olympic Charter by the United States, set a record with 140 participating nations and 6,797 athletes competing in 221 events. The standout performer of the 1984 Games was Carl Lewis, who matched Jesse Owens’ feat from the 1936 Berlin Games by winning four gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, and long jump.

Details about the closing ceremony of Paris 2024 remain under wraps, with organizers maintaining secrecy despite some leaks. Rehearsals have been conducted discreetly at the Stade de France after the conclusion of the Games and the departure of spectators, volunteers, and media.

The closing ceremony, themed “Records,” will celebrate more than two weeks of sporting achievements and festivities in France, including the breaking of Olympic and world records. To allow the public to participate in the final moments of Paris 2024, 113 celebration venues will be opened in collaboration with local communities.

Performers for the closing ceremony will include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, and Billie Eilish. The handover from Paris to Los Angeles will feature a mix of pre-recorded and live performances, with the Stade de France transformed into a grand concert hall. Hundreds of performers, dancers, and circus artists will join renowned stars for the show.

Additionally, Hollywood star Tom Cruise, who was seen attending gymnastics and swimming events, is expected to appear in a spectacular stunt performance. The exact details of his performance and the full lineup of participating artists will be revealed on Sunday. Electronic music legends Air and Phoenix are also anticipated to feature in the soundtrack, providing a memorable send-off as Los Angeles prepares to host the next Olympic Games. (ın cyprus)
