President Ersin Tatar has expressed the significance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s upcoming visit on the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation.
Tatar stated that during the celebrations, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will demonstrate its importance to the Turkish nation and reaffirm the correctness of the national policies being pursued, sending a strong message to the world that there will be no retreat from these policies.
Receiving Haydar Ali Yıldız, President of the Türkiye Archers Foundation, who is in the TRNC for events related to the 20th of July Peace and Freedom Day celebrations, President Tatar highlighted the impact of national activities on youth.
He emphasized the importance of the Foundation’s work in preserving cultural traditions and national values that have been passed down through history.
Tatar also addressed the Cyprus issue, asserting the existence of two separate states on the island.
He underscored that significant achievements have been made in the last 50 years, emphasizing the legitimacy of the Turkish state in the north as equal to that of the Greek Cypriot state in the south.
Tatar reiterated the critical nature of Turkish President Erdoğan’s visit to the TRNC and the message it will send about the unwavering commitment to national policies.
Haydar Ali Yıldız was also received by Speaker of the Parliament Zorlu Töre, who remarked on the historical significance of archery in Turkish history.
Töre expressed his satisfaction with the joint event organized in collaboration with the Yunus Emre Institute in the TRNC, noting the importance of the 20th of July 1974 for the Turkish Cypriot community.
Töre emphasized that this date is a day of celebration for the Turkish Cypriots and should be recognized as such worldwide.
He also touched upon the situation in Gaza, comparing it to the potential fate of Cyprus had the Peace Operation not occurred, insisting that no one should disrupt their peace.
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu also welcomed Haydar Ali Yıldız, who provided insights into the Foundation’s activities and extended his congratulations for the Peace and Freedom Day celebrations.
