President Ersin Tatar received the Commander and Students of the Naval Petty Officer Vocational School on Wednesday.
In his speech during the reception, President Tatar stressed the great value of successful efforts to further enhance awareness regarding the maritime jurisdiction areas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), including territorial waters, the continental shelf, and the exclusive economic zone, as well as the “Blue Homeland” and “Sky Homeland,” which have been continuously highlighted in recent years.
He also expressed his pride in these developments.
The President also touched upon the recent successes of Türkiye’s national defence industry and stated that he closely follows all innovations related to the navy.
“When we look at the history of Cyprus, we owe a great deal to the Ottoman Empire’s navy and the Republic of Türkiye’s naval forces. Looking back at the past here, our existence, survival, and sovereignty are tied to the naval forces and the navy. In these times, you have great responsibilities in safeguarding the growing importance of the Blue Homeland from every aspect and protecting the national sensitivities and interests that have emerged from our cooperation with Türkiye in this regard” Tatar added.
The Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly, Zorlu Töre, also received the Commander and Students of the Navy Non-Commissioned Officer Vocational School.
Expressing his pleasure at seeing the sailors who are the guardians of the Blue Homeland, Töre stressed that they wanted the Turkish Navy to be strong, adding that they supported all measures taken in this regard.
Reminding that Cyprus had a dominant position in the Middle East, the Parliamentary Speaker referred to the naval base activities conducted by South Cyprus and added that, if necessary, a naval base could also be established in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. brt
