At 05:32 AM today, a 4.6 magnitude earthquake rocked the Kozan area of Adana, followed by two further earthquakes of magnitudes 4.5 and 4.0. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that no unfavourable complaints were received.
Adana, which was already dealing with major devastation from the “disaster of the century” earthquakes in Kahramanmaras on February 6, 2023, felt further shocks this morning.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the first 4.6 magnitude earthquake near Kozan struck at 05:32 AM at a depth of 7.0 km. The earthquake was felt in neighbouring provinces and regions.
Following that, two further earthquakes rocked Kozan at 05:33 AM and 05:34 AM, with magnitudes of 4.5 and 4.0, respectively. A 3.7 magnitude earthquake struck the district again at 05:58 AM.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya issued a message on social media after the earthquakes. Minister Yerlikaya stated:
“A sequence of earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.6, 4.5, and 4 were recorded in Kozan, Adana. Our AFAD and affiliated institution teams are still conducting field surveys in reaction to the earthquake that was felt in neighbouring regions. As of yet, there have been no unfavourable reports. We are keeping track of the developments.”
