Tatar attends opening of UniFest

President Ersin Tatar has said that the joint organization of events by universities from Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) contributes to the development of brotherly ties between the two countries.

Tatar was speaking at the opening ceremony of UniFest organized under the auspices of the Northern Cyprus Universities Federation and the Türkiye Universities Sports Federation.

Speaking at the opening, President Tatar expressed his pleasure at attending the opening of the sports games, congratulated those involved in organizing the event, and wished success to the athletes participating in the competitions.

Tatar emphasized the significance of sports as a means of friendship, brotherhood, and solidarity, highlighting the importance of engaging in sports while pursuing education at universities.

Emphasizing the importance of joint events between universities of both countries, Tatar reiterated that such initiatives contribute to the development of brotherly ties between the two nations.

He also mentioned the participation of foreign students studying at universities in the competitions, emphasizing that universities contribute to the promotion of the TRNC and provide opportunities for young people to grow with universal values.

Addressing the unjust embargo and restrictions imposed on the Turkish Cypriots, President Tatar spoke about the embargoes in the field of sports, emphasizing the importance of keeping politics out of sports.

Reflecting on his recent return from the 15th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Gambia, Tatar mentioned efforts to involve Turkish Cypriots in the Islamic Games.

President Tatar underscored that the event conveyed a message of peace, tranquility, and brotherhood to the world, stating, “We will support our children. Universities, federations, clubs, and athletes collectively raise the bar. There are 33 sports federations in the country. Our hope is for competitions to be conducted under discipline and for sports to be performed through competition.”

Tatar also paid tribute to the Champion Angels, who lost their lives in the February 6 earthquake in Türkiye.brt
