President Ersin Tatar, upon completing his meetings at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Gambia, returned to the country and held a press conference. Tatar stated, “There is no question of stepping back from our new policy.”
President Ersin Tatar emphasized that there is no consideration of stepping back from the new policy being conducted in full harmony with the Republic of Turkey, and he stated that he would convey this once again to the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General whom he will meet this week.
President Ersin Tatar expressed that the negotiation process cannot be initiated until the international equal status, sovereignty, and state of the Turkish Cypriot people are recognized, and he emphasized that they will continue their efforts to increase the international visibility of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus under the new policy framework.

In a press conference held upon his return, Tatar stated that they represented the Turkish Cypriot people in the best possible way at the summit in Gambia and that it was a successful summit.
Expressing his gratitude to the President of Gambia and the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for their close attention, Tatar pointed out the importance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus having observer status in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the second largest organization after the UN.
Tatar said, “We received an impressive interest and took our place as a state in all kinds of protocols.” He stated that they talked about the injustices, isolations, and pressure faced by the Turkish Cypriot people at the summit, and they demanded support for lifting the isolations, which are the expectation of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Tatar stated that they emphasized that these embargoes are inhumane in this age and besides demanding support for their removal, they also expressed their desire for the development of relations in all fields such as culture, tourism, and education.
Expressing that the Republic of Turkey has always been with them in every process, providing support for the increase of the state’s status and for every meeting to be recorded, Tatar thanked for the support.
Tatar said, “It was a successful visit; we voiced and represented the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and our people,” and he noted that the inhumane attacks in Gaza were extensively discussed during the meetings.
