Tatar welcomes Gaza peace declaration signed in Egypt

President Ersin Tatar welcomed the signing of the Gaza Declaration of Intent in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh, describing it as a historic initiative aimed at ending the genocide in Gaza, alleviating the ongoing tragedy, protecting the lives of innocent Palestinians suffering from hunger, and laying the foundation for lasting peace.

In his written statement, President Tatar said the document — signed by Türkiye, the United States, Egypt, and Qatar — represents a vital diplomatic breakthrough.

He emphasised that the U.S. managed the diplomatic framework, while Egypt and Qatar played facilitating roles.

Türkiye, he noted, stood out as one of the leading mediators, demonstrating firm commitment in the field of humanitarian diplomacy.

President Tatar underlined that the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was decisive in achieving the ceasefire and opening the humanitarian aid corridor.

He noted that as of the previous day, humanitarian aid had begun flowing into Gaza, with hundreds of trucks carrying food, essential supplies, and medicine reaching the area.

Under the agreement, 1,968 Palestinians were released, while 20 Israeli hostages were handed over.

“The Turkish Cypriot people fully support the humanitarian diplomacy led by Motherland Türkiye,” Tatar said, adding that the TRNC continues to uphold its vision based on justice, equality, and human dignity — drawing strength from this solidarity and its inherent rights. brt
